Montgomery, Alabama- August 23, 2012 - “Behind every great baseball player is a man that shaped his career and brought him to the big leagues. Frank Evans made a career in baseball for a quarter century doing just that. He is responsible for the success of more professional players than anyone else in history. As Frank put it ‘I had a commodity that would sell’. As a scout, coach and instructor for countless Triple A teams, Evans had an eye for potential and knows how to cultivate natural talent, dedication and good direction into Major League material"…. By Kate Hutchinson
(Insert: In 1984/1985, as a Scout for St. Louis Triple A Ball Club, Coach Frank sent six players to the majors. These same six players went to the World Series for the Cardinals against the Kansas City Royals in 1985. Those players were Terry Pendleton, Randy Hunt, Brian Jordan, Andy Hassler, Curt Ford and Vince Coleman.)
Honored by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990, in a Salute to the Negro Leagues, Evans has been rated by many major league organizations as the best hitting instructor in organized baseball.
Coach Frank was also the Scout, Coach, Mentor and Friend that gave me an opportunity to play and coach at the next level.
Coach Frank passed away at the age of 91 this past year and even up until his death, he was still helping young baseball players realize their goals of playing both professional and collegiate baseball.
I know of no better of continuing the legacy of what Coach Frank began of helping people elevate and advance in the game of baseball than by creating a league dedicated to providing area youth with just what Coach Frank gave me. An opportunity… I introduce to you the Frank Evans Wooden Bat League.
The FEWBL Baseball will be compiling an elite Instructional & Developmental Fall League beginning in August 2013 and Registration has already begun. Teams will compete in the SAM BAT League, one of the nations fastest growing wooden bat leagues and compete at the highest levels of amateur baseball as well as in Travel Ball Competitions to help gauge player development in a competitive format (an application of what's being learned by players in real world situations). The FEWBL will quickly prove to be one of the most talented, well organized, and recognizable wooden bat leagues in Southeast.
Each team will be led by the expert coaches on the IMPACT Baseball Staff and will showcase a level of commitment to development and service never before seen in this area. Area Collegiate Coaches and Recruiters as well as Area MLB Scouts have also been invited to participate as way to give back and assist our youth with the proper skills and fundamentals necessary to advance in the game.
"The FEWBL will also serve as a support mechanism to the local high school system’s baseball programs as it will be an instructional league providing area players with the reps, tools and instruction necessary during the off season to advance to the next level inherently making the level of high school competition in this area stronger" says FEWBL President, A. Rod White.
